Hey, I'm Sophia
I am a project manager, a parent, and an expat living in Berlin, Germany.
A few years back I moved here with my family. What began as a temporary assignment gradually became a new chapter of life abroad.
How It Started
Moving to Germany wasn't in the plan for the long haul. As with many expatriate relocations, it began as a job opportunity and soon grew into something far more significant.
The initial months were intense — unfamiliar systems, routines, and expectations. Daily tasks seemed more tangled than they needed to be.
The Adjustment Period
Culture shock, uncertainty, and plenty of hands-on learning were part of it. Yet gradually routines took shape. We found places that fit us, connected with other families, and began shaping something that felt steady.
Why I Built ThistleIslandBrookside
Most online resources tended to be either corporate relocation guidance or shallow tourism content. What was lacking was a truthful, everyday family viewpoint.
This site aims to fill that gap with practical guidance grounded in real life in Germany.
What This Website Covers (And What It Doesn't)
This site OFFERS:
- Hands-on insights from living in Germany
- Centered on family life and daily realities
- Updated whenever something truly changes
This site DOES NOT INCLUDE:
- as an official tourism authority resource
- a paid-review platform
- a generic travel blog
Moving Forward
Our time in Germany goes on, and so does the learning journey. As long as the information remains useful, I will continue to document what we discover.
If you have questions about family life in Berlin or anywhere in Germany, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Sophia
